Polaris Industries will come into Chisago County and not have to pay taxes for 15 years.
The Chisago County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution granting the tax abatement last week as recommended by the countyís Housing and Redevelopment and Economic Development Authority (HRA-EDA).
The countyís abatement program usually extends for 10 years, but this abatement will be for 15. The board approved the abatement anticipating that Polaris will be of benefit to the county in jobs, future taxes and in encouraging other industries to come into the county.
The amount of tax abatement at current value is estimated to be $1,143,156.
Abatements are allowed under Minnesota laws.
The abatement will be for property taxes payable 2006 through 2020. At the end of the abatement period, Polaris will begin paying property taxes to the county.
While Polaris has chosen Chisago County for its newest facility and has received JOBZ assistance, and now that the county has approved the tax abatement, there remains still a number of unfinished items of business before the ground breaks on the building.
The fate of CR 84, running along the southern border of the Polaris property is still in limbo.
The county has set a public hearing for 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 21 to decide whether the road is to be closed, moved or left as is. The road is extremely important to Polaris.
