Middle class need the overtime

To the editor:
Sen. Nienow, I am appalled that you voted against protecting overtime pay for hardworking people such as firefighters, nurses and police officers. These are people who are currently working more than 40 hours a week to pay for the needs of their families - not because they want to - most work overtime because they have to.
Donít you get it? Middle-class families work depend on overtime pay to help make ends meet -- to pay for groceries, gas and necessities.
The bill you voted against was in response to horrible federal overtime rule changes proposed by President Bush. You voted against a bill to protect Minnesota workers and their families from the uncertainties and possible disastrous loss of income caused by the rule changes.
Sen. Nienow, how could you vote against a bill to allow workers - who are currently receiving overtime pay - to continue to receive the overtime pay? Itís that simple. Itís that wrong!
Senator Nienow, itís time you start looking for a new job because youíre certainly not doing the job we sent you to St. Paul to do.
