To the editor:
Dreams With Wings 2004 was an amazing success. The Youth Service Bureau extends a huge thank you to every woman and every girl who lent an enthusiastic helping hand during each stage of this program. The Dreams With Wings Conference would never have taken place without our wonderful volunteers.
Throughout the months of January, February, and March, youth volunteers Brianna Strunk, Maddie Baatz, Angela Walker, Dawn Kichler, and Jessa Michalek worked to plan the conference. On March 13, all of their hard work was recognized and celebrated by the 45 participants taking part in the dayís festivities.
In response to the ideas and interests of these youth on the planning committee, community volunteers were able to contribute immensely to Dreams With Wings programming. Julia Phillips, Peggy Decker, Ann Rinkenberger, Adevia Salon, Kris Jackson, Susan Novak, Officer Kelly McCarthy, Officer Mike Munson, Carla Truax, Vetris Pate, Lindsay Stahl, Stefanie Gaylord and Jackie Hays were all able to take these topic ideas and create meaningful and interactive workshops for the girls and women attending the conference. Workshops included cake decorating, hand massage, yoga, self-defense, and much more.
In addition to the workshops, the dayís keynote presentation highlighted issues every woman faces. Dr. Sarah Manney, a pediatric D.O. at Fairview Regional Health Care, presented to this group of young women, mothers, and grandmothers on how imagination and individuality are important in creating and fulfilling your unique dreams. The presentation was motivational, and easily molded into powerful lessons for women of all ages.
These volunteers have given countless hours to the development of this successful program and deserve a huge round of applause.
