A child who wandered away from adults during a day care tour at Pinehaven Farm in Wyoming last Friday was found safe napping under a pine tree more than two miles from where she was last seen.
The child, a 2-year-old from the Anoka area, went missing shortly after noon, said Wyoming police officer Brian Rod. She was one of seven kids from a day care on a tour of the farm west of I-35.
Rod said the girl and a second child, 4, slipped away from the group. The older child returned but the 2-year-old was reported missing by 12:15 p.m., Rod said.
City police were joined by deputies from the Chisago County Sheriffís Office. The search effort numbered close to 100 members thanks to neighbors and volunteers from the Wyoming, Stacy and Forest Lake fire departments.
Rod said personnel from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources also turned out to help. A DNR airplane and a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter were also sent to help with the search.
Rod said all ended well when volunteer Meghan Grandahl, 14, of Wyoming, found the girl napping under a pine tree. Rod said the child had walked a little over two miles north on a farm field road. She was found 2‡ hours after becoming separated from the group, the officer said.
The child was not injured. She was checked out by a paramedic on scene and sent home, Rod said.
