Rush City rebounds with win over East Central

The Rush City baseball squad fell in an 11-4 contest to Braham April 20 before rebounding in an 8-1 win over East Central April 22. The Bombers took advantage of 9 walks to assist them in scoring 5 runs.

Braham went ahead with a big 6-run fourth inning that included 3 walks, 4 hits and one Rush City error.

The Tigers answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 6-2. Junior John Bosman and sophomore Adam Best walked and were both driven home on a single from junior Dan Gamache.

The Bombers increased the lead with 5 more runs in the sixth inning.

Gamache started the sixth with his third hit of the game and advanced on a walk to senior Kris Guentzel. Gamache scored on a sacrifice from junior Tony Webb and Guentzel scored on a single from senior Kellin Sybrant. Due to the inclement weather, the game was called after 6 innings with Braham picking up the 11-4 win.

Best pitched 3 and two-thirds innings, with Noah Reichert coming in as relief.

Gamache went 3 for 3 including a double to lead the offense. Sybrantís single was the only other hit for the Tigers.

ìBraham took advantage of the walks and we didnít,î Head Coach Bob Schlagel said. ìWe walked eight times but could not deliver the big hit when we needed it.î

The big hits were there for Rush City in an 8-1 win over East Central.

The team tallied 8 hits at key times to score runs, including senior Andrew Kaufmannís double in the fourth inning that scored 2 Tiger runs.
Rush City went up 1-0 after the third as Bosman singled and then scored on a single from Guentzel.

The Tigers opened up the lead with 4 more in the fourth. Along with Kaufmannís double, Bosman also knocked in a run with a single in the inning.

The Eagles picked up their lone run in the fourth inning. Rush City answered with 3 more in the sixth to seal the 8-1 win, 2 coming off of a double from senior Brent Freeman.

Bosman pitched the complete game for the win. Defensively the Tigers played errorless ball.

Bosman also led the offense, going 3 for 4.

ìWe had 8 hits but left 15 runners on base,î Schlagel said. ìWe had many opportunities to break the game open but failed to come up with the key hit. We must become more aggressive at the plate instead of being on our heels. We need to learn the strike zone and lay off bad pitches.î

The games bring Rush City to 5-2 overall, 3-2 in the Great River Conference.

This week, the squad was scheduled to take on Isle Tuesday and will host Onamia Thursday, April 29 in a night game at 7:30 p.m.
