The corn is tasseled, the grain is golden, and that means the annual Almelund Threshing Show will soon be here. This is a late-summer event that takes people back to days gone by with lots of old tractors and farm equipment, classic cars, old-time demonstrations and all around fun.
The 48th annual threshing show takes place Aug. 13-15, gate opens at 7 a.m. every day.
Admission is $7 for adults, free for anyone under 12.
One highlight of the three-day event is a tractor parade everyday at 1 p.m.
There will be youth tractor clinics both Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m., and tractor pulls, classic, antique and vintage, all three days.
Exhibits include tractors, gas engines, classic and antique cars and trucks, glass blowing, steam sawmill, snow fence making, blacksmith and shingle and lathe mill.
There will be kids activities including a sawdust pile, petting zoo and live buffalo exhibit.
Visit the old school building and womenís building for a nostalgic trip to yesteryear. And take in the flea market, which is touted as the largest around.
Wind the day up both Friday and Saturday with a dance and live music at the beer garden.
Enter to win a 1956 Ford 640 sponsored by the Almelund Lions and Almelund Volunteer Fire Department. The Almelund Threshing Show is 12 miles east of North Branch on Hwy. 95. Free parking. Grounds phone number is (651) 583-2083.
