From North Branch High School

North Branch Area Public Schools Activities Director Becky Leuer has been elected to the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Board of Directors, representing girls sports. Leuer will serve for four years.

The MSHSL is a voluntary, nonprofit association of public and private schools. Its membership includes nearly 500 schools, including North Branch area schools.

These member schools provide opportunities for athletics and fine arts competition for more than 200,000 high school students statewide each year.

The board of directors is the governing body of the MSHSL. As a member of the board, Leuer will help oversee the organizationís finances and programs for both athletics and fine arts, and make decisions for the group as a whole.

Recently, the MSHSL signed a $20 million contract with Channel 45 for television coverage of state high school tournaments.

According to Leuer, ìA big focus right now is on sportsmanship, increasing attendance at state tournaments and recruiting and maintaining officials.

ìAs a board member, I represent all schools in Minnesota and not just one area.

ìIt is extremely important to look at the big picture and how decisions impact the entire program. That said, with my membership on the Board, North Branch will have the advantage of always knowing what is going on immediately.î

Leuer has been active in the MSHSL for many years as part of the representative assembly and various subcommittees. She has also served as president of the Girls Volleyball Association.
