Lakes International Language Academy offers tours

Posted: 12/15/04

Lakes International Language Academy offers a tour for students and parents considering enrolling in this Spanish immersion elementary school in Forest Lake.

The tour is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 9:15 a.m. Reserve space by calling the school at (651) 464-0771.
As a public school, Lakes International Language Academy charges no tuition and accepts students without regard to race or ethnic heritage, religion, academic or athletic performance, just as all public schools do. However, as a charter school, Lakes International limits its class sizes. For 2005-06, the school will accept 20 kindergarten students for each of three sections.

All prospective students must submit an application, including siblings of existing students (siblings receive enrollment preference, if their applications are received prior to Jan. 15). Applications are available online at www.lakesinternational.org or at the school.
They should be submitted before Jan. 15, 2005, for the 2005-06 school year.

ìOn Jan. 15, we will accept students for the 2005-06 school year from the applications received to date,î explained Director Cam Hedlund. ìIf there are more applications than seats available, then we will conduct a random lottery from the applications received prior to Jan. 15 and establish a waiting list.î

Kindergarten students are not expected to have any prior Spanish language knowledge. The school may consider developing a 2005-06 class for first graders without Spanish experience; interested parents should contact the school.
In addition to Spanish immersion, the school has adopted the rigorous International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program for its curriculum. More information is available online at www.lakesinternational.org.
