Defending state champion Braham swamped Rush City 95-25 on Dec. 10, leaving the Tigers winless on the season.
Braham gave the standing-room-only crowd at RCHS a taste of things to come in the opening seconds of the game, when their smothering full court press forced turnovers in the Tigersí first three possessions.
The score at the end of the first frame was 22-7, and the Bombers did not let up throughout the game.
Tigers Coach Gary Dreissig called the contest ìa complete mismatch.î
ìBraham gets so much credit for their offensive skills that their defense gets forgotten. With their defensive pressure, we couldnít ever get into our offense and every low pass ended up in a lay-up for the Bombers. They had more field goals than we had attempts.
ìThey are a fun team to watch unless you are the opposing team and coaches. Wow!î Dreissig said.
The Tigers lost to Onamia on Dec. 7. Rush Cityís defense was strong, forcing 25 Panther turnovers, but the Tigers failed to convert most of them into points.
The Tigers got outscored 15-1 at the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second. Rush Cityís full court press cut the score to 42-39 in the third quarter, but they couldnít get over the hump.
Kevin Bengston and Jerred Nelson led the team in scoring with 16 points each, while Trenton Waters added 10.
ìOur young team needs to learn to run more offense when teams make a run on us,î Dreissig said.
Up next: The 0-3 Tigers travel to the 8-team St. Johnís Holiday tourney Dec. 16-18. They face St. Johnís at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 in their first match.
