NB boys drop season opener in Duluth

A strong fourth quarter performance proved to be too little, too late as the North Branch Vikings dropped their season opener Nov. 27 to the Duluth Central Trojans, 53-51.

The Vikings scored 21 points to Centralís 13 in the final frame, but couldnít quite overcome the 10-point deficit they had at the end of the third quarter. The Trojans led by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter.
North Branch shot a strong 50 percent from the field on two-pointers and 36 percent on threes, while their opponent posted 44 percent on two pointers and made no three-pointers.

Matt Warren led North Branch in scoring with 12 points. Jake Chambers and Nick Perrin each chipped in 10. Tony Beaver led the team in rebounding with five.

ìWe started out rather slowly and our inexperience showed as we were a little nervous,î said Coach Bill Baumann. ìOur inexperience really showed on the glass as we were killed on the boards. We werenít used to boxing out at this level and reacting to the ball. They really used their size advantage.î
