Volleyball awards announced

Anderson sets two school records

Two Vikings received all-conference honors and eight earned letters at the annual volleyball awards dinner on Nov. 16.
Senior Jenny Anderson and sophomore Megan Ranger were named to the Rum River Conference All-Conference team while senior Mandy Warzala and junior Kaia Nyberg received honorable mentions.

The all-conference designation is the second for Anderson, a senior. She was also named the Vikingsí Most Valuable Player and best offense.

Letter winners were seniors Anderson, Kali Ramberg and Mandy Warzala; juniors Nyberg and Kelsey Vichorek; sophomores Kacie Ramberg and Ranger; freshman Cori Fairbanks.

Other awards were: Kelsey Vichorek, best defense; Cori Fairbanks, rookie of the year; Megan Ranger, team spirit award; Fairbanks and Kacie Ramberg, most improved players; Kaia Nyberg, most coachable player.

The Vikings volleyball team finished with a record of 12-16 overall and 6-3 in the conference, good for fourth place.
Anderson led the team in kills with 244, Nyberg was second with 142 and Ranger third with 140.

Anderson led the team in blocked shots with 117 solos and 72 assists for a total of 189. Her 117 solo blocks broke the single season record of 72 set in 1997 by Meghan Devine. Her career total of 279.5 blocks also set a new North Branch record, surpassing Shannon Devineís 247.5. Anderson finished her career with 509 kills, sixth on the all-time list, and 795.5 aces, also sixth on the all-time list.
Nybergís 142 blocks gave her a career total of 149 blocks, fifth on the all-time list. That number puts her on pace to break Andersonís new record.

Rookie of the Year Fairbanks posted 527 set assists, 8th on the career list.
Nyberg and Vichorek were named team captains for the 2005 season.
