Posted: 12/22/04

A North Branch man was charged Tuesday (Dec. 14) with third-degree felony assault for allegedly hitting another man in the face several times at the Fort Snelling light-rail station.

While riding on a light rail train with friends Saturday morning (Dec. 11), Anthony Joe Ibarra, 23, got into a verbal altercation with another group of men, according to a Hennepin County Sheriffís Office report.

Ibarra began to push the group of men, and when they exited the train at the Fort Snelling station where they parked their car, Ibarra and his friends followed. Ibarra approached one of the men and allegedly hit him several times in the face. The victim fell to the platform, where Ibarra allegedly continued to punch him, the report said. Ibarra and his friends then ran from the scene.

Ibarra was arrested and booked into the sheriffís office jail Saturday morning after being found hiding in the bushes near the transit station by a Metro Transit police officer. He remains in custody of the sheriffís office with bail set at $20,000.
