Xcel Energy food drive Nov. 6

To the editor:

On Saturday, Nov. 6, Family Pathways held a food drive at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. This is the second concert event done in connection with the KTIS radio station. The payoff was 78,000 pounds of much needed food.

A lot of things that go into the planning and preparation to make it successful!
Transportation: David Hughes was one of the semi drivers who donated his time and the company he works for, Sunflower Trucking out of York, NE donated the use of the truck and trailer.

Ken Wing from Isanti, MN was the other driver and Ken works for S & L Transport out of Blaine, MN.

Tom Johnson from Cambridge, MN donated the use of some of his warehouse space to store the food until it is delivered to Family Pathwayís five food pantry locations.

John Schlagel of Schlagel Inc. in Cambridge donated the use of his fork lift to unload the semi trailers Saturday night after the concert event.

The Masons from Chisago Lodge #232 in North Branch, headed by Charles Hult, Hiram Lodge #287 in Lindstrom, headed by Don Drum, Helios Lodge #273 in Cambridge, headed by John Erlandson, and Mora Lodge #223, headed by Doc Moss, donated the money needed to purchase gaylords which are used to collect the food at these events and load onto the semi trailers.

Petersonís Farm and Implement from North Branch, MN donated the use of 48 pallets.

Thank you to all of these wonderful people whose generosity makes events like these possible! We could never provide the services we do to the families who need us without the help of our wonderful volunteers.

Some of the volunteers who participated in the event this time were first timers. It usually works out that by the end of the evening they are so excited about the thousands of pounds of food and the generosity of the people donating that they commit to for future large event food drives.

At this time there are two more large concert events scheduled. One will be in Cambridge on Sunday, Dec. 19 at the Cambridge High School, Performing Arts Center, ìGo Fishî will be performing. The second will be in St. Paul with KTIS in February, a two day event. So if any of you are interested in volunteer opportunities, please call Kathy Hughes @ 651-464-2098 to talk about her upcoming events and volunteer needs. Her hope is to do these ìlarge food eventsî on a regular basis to keep our food pantry shelves well stocked!
