Orville R. BrownOrville Roy Brown, the son of Roy and Alice (Erickson) Brown, was born Aug. 26, 1918, in North Branch. He grew up there and was a graduate of North Branch High School. Following graduation, Orville traveled the area as a saxophonist with Joe Dufeckís Mellow Blues Band. The dance band included Joe Dufeck, Ken Cool, Lloyd Hammergren, and Dennis Ekstrand. During this time he also worked in the family business in North Branch, Brownís Cash Store. Later, his work in engineering with the Milwaukee Road Railroad took him to Elgin, Illinois and then to St. Louis, Missouri. From there he and his wife, Arline (of Superior), moved to Houston, Texas. They made their home in Houston from 1955 until 2003, and while living there Orville sold pumps and irrigation equipment. More recently, Orville and Arline have made their home in St. Louis. Orville died Feb. 4, 2004, in St. Louis at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, Arline Violet Sletten Brown, of St. Louis; his son, Jack Orville Brown, and his grandson, Maxwell Bennett Brown, both of St. Louis; his brother and sister-in-law, Chester and June Brown, of Cambridge; his sisters and brother-in-law: Hazel (ìBrownieî) and Cliff Dahlstrom, of Rush City, and Mae Lindstrom of San Diego, Calif.; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Alice Brown. Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City with the Reverend Loren Mellum officiating. Music was provided by organist Virginia Poorker and soloist Jon Scheele. Casket bearers were members of the Jasper Mason Lodge, No. 164, of Rush City. Interment was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, North Branch. ©ECM Post Review |
