Edward Joseph Wicklacz

Ed was born the second of thirteen children of Thomas and Mary (Kasper) Wicklacz. He was born Feb. 17, 1912, on the family farm in Isanti County.

He attended the nearby one-room school through the eighth grade.

As he grew older, he worked with his family on their farm, raising wheat, oats and corn. Every fall he helped with the threshing crew. In the Depression years of the 1930ís Ed joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.) and worked at a camp in northern Minnesota.
In 1939, Ed delivered a piece of farm machinery to Gust Heckerothís farm that was located on East Rush Lake, a few miles west of Rush City. Gust hired him to help with the work on his farm, and Ed met Gustís daughter, Florence. They were married in December of 1947.

When Florenceís father passed away, Ed and Florence took over the operation of the Heckeroth farm.
Ed died at his rural Rush City home on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2004, at the age of 91.

He was survived by his sisters: Vickie Stevens of Rice, Minn., Marcy and (Don) Videen of Forest Lake, Ann Halfen of Woodbury, Betty Jones of Minnetonka, Frances Grant of Lakewood, Calif., Sue and (Karl) Lueneburg of St. Paul; his sister-in-law Sylvia Wicklacz of Woodbury and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Preceding Ed in death were his parents, Thomas and Mary Wicklacz, his wife Florence, his sisters Rose, Kathryn, Sister Mary Wicklacz, and his brothers John, Tom, and Leonard.

Father Xavier Thelakkett officiated funeral services on Feb. 7, at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City. Jon Scheele sang two solos accompanied by organist Virginia Poorker. Casket bearers included Rick Steltz, Ron Steltz and Ken Steltz, Brian Kendall, Frank Strelow and Larry Jilek. Interment was at St. Johnís Lutheran Cemetery on East Rush Lake.
