Tigers struggle to find rhythm in three losses

The Rush City girls finished a week of games that they would most likely forget, falling to Grantsburg, Hinckley-Finlayson, Barnum and Onamia.

In the Grantsburg loss Jan. 27, Rush City struggled throughout the first half and trailed 27-15 at the midway point. The Tigers rallied to score 21 points in the fourth quarter, but were unable to narrow the gap for a 54-45 loss.

ìWe really struggled to find a rhythm until the fourth quarter, but it was too late,î Head Coach Stuart Lang said.

Senior Christine Moore led the offense with 10 points and 5 assists.

The squad went on to lose a close 55-50 game to Hinckley-Finlayson Jan. 30.

After taking the 25-23 lead at halftime, Rush City saw the Jaguars take over the lead and eventually win the game in the fourth quarter.

ìWe led by two points after the third quarter and played a very solid game against a good Hinckley team,î Lang said. ìAll around we played one of our best games of the year. We just couldnít hold down Hinckley in the fourth quarter.î

Junior Breann Stottler led scoring with 13 points and played great defense against Hinckleyís top player. Senior Meghan OíShea picked up the team in the first half with 10 points, including 2 three-pointers.

Following a loss to Barnum Feb. 3, the Tigers fell 65-46 to Onamia Feb. 5.

Rush City trailed by as much as 20 points in the first half, but was able to cut the lead to 5 early in the third quarter.

ìWe couldnít find a rhythm for most of the first half, as Onamia pressured us into a lot of turnovers,î Lang said. ìBut the girls worked hard and made it into a game in the third quarter.î

Sophomore Heather Dean led the squad with 13 points, 4 steals and 5 rebounds. Stottler added 9 points, 3 steals and 4 assists.

The teamís record now stands at 8-8 overall and 3-6 in the Great River Conference.

This week, the team was scheduled to take on Braham Tuesday and faces Ogilvie at home Friday, Feb. 13.
