Time to say thanks to the vets

To the editor:
Sunday night the movie Pearl Harbor was on television. During its performance I would drift in and out of the living room. I was alternately riveted to the screen, mesmerized by the horror if it and at other times slipping into the other room to block out the sights and sounds. World War II was a horrible devastating time in history with a horrific loss of lives. My dad lived in Canada at the time and at the age of 16 was working as a mechanic on the Mosquito bombers.
He also worked at a training base which was used by several countries to train pilots.
Canada played a large part in the war by supplying England with food and weapons.
He was at the airport one time when the U.S. landed three big C5s in Toronto and loaded up all the automatic weapons they had to send to our troops which were being deployed from the west coast.
My dad played a small part; many other dads and moms gave their lives for the freedom of our country and for the freedom of many other countries. I canít watch a show like that and not think of those in our own small towns who left school, left jobs and left country to serve bravely for what they believed in.
I cannot shed enough tears to thank them enough. They gave their precious lives for mine and for my children and grandchildren. Many of them are now the generation that are sitting in our nursing homes and elder care homes.
They deserve our care, our honor and our respect. I encourage all who read this to use some time to tell them you appreciate all they did, even if they donít seem to hear, even if they donít reply back to you.
The time is short, their generation will not be with us much longer and we owe it to them.
With my utmost thanks and appreciation to all who have served on my behalf for our country over all these years.
Time to say thanks to the vets.
