Duane M. ìSkipî YdeDuane M. ìSkipî Yde, age 53, of Harris passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, as the result of a tractor accident. He was born Jan. 13, 1951, in Amery, Wisc., and grew up in North St. Paul. On Aug. 26, 1972 he married the true love of his life, Jan Entenmann, and they moved to a picturesque farm in Harris, Minn. where they have lived ever since. Skip worked as a rural carrier on Route 2 in Pine City, and as a farrier for over 30 years, traveling many miles to visit his equine customers. His friends joked that he was îFarrier to the Stars,î after Skip became the requested shoer of world famous horse trainer John Lyons for his equally famous horse Bright Zip. His life with horses was equal parts hard work and pure enjoyment, and he never saw a horse with sore foot or gait impairment that he didnít think he could fix, and did. He missed both the people and the horses greatly when the effects of Parkinsonís Disease became too severe for him to continue working with them. But his love of horses never faded. Skip became interested in landscaping, and spent many happy times installing water fountains and decorative lighting, planting gardens, building landscape features and fences. He loved riding his horses, biking at the state park, and watching old westerns on TV. Skip was preceded in death by his father Robert J. Yde, his mother Lulla, his brother Harvey, his favorite horse Mitty and his ìBest Dogî Charlie. A memorial service will be held Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Harris; Pastor Likkens officiating. ©ECM Post Review |
