Curtis E. Burda

Curtis Eugene Burda was born Oct. 6, 1942 in Rush City, Minn., and died Feb. 11, 2004 at Bethesda Rehabilitation Hospital in St. Paul. He was 61 years of age.

Curt was the third of five sons born to Clarence, Sr. and Helen (Olson) Burda. The Burda family lived at Stark, Minn., and Curt attended North Branch High School at North Branch, Minn. He graduated from there in 1960.

In 1965, he was united in marriage to the former Patricia Nelson, and they made their home in Rush City. Patty preceded him in death in 1997.

From 1961 to 1978 Curt worked as a laborer, and during the next 25 years he was employed as a carpenter. He was eventually forced to retire from that vocation due to his declining health.

Curt was a member of the Rush City Volunteer Fire Department for a period of 25 years, and served his community as fire chief for a number of those years.
He enjoyed spending his free time fishing, hunting, and watching NASCAR racing. His family was most important to him, and any time he could spend with them was very special.

Curt is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Tim and Michele Burda of Burke, Virginia; his grandchildren: Caroline, Colton, and Payton; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Clarence Burda, Jr., Bruce Burda, Richard and Janet Burda, Don and Arlene Burda, all of the Stark area, four nieces, one nephew, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patty, and his parents, Clarence, Sr. and Helen Burda.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City with the Reverend Laurie OíShea officiating. Dianne Kirchberg was the pianist for the service.

Honorary casket bearers were members of the Rush City, Harris and Pine City Volunteer Fire Departments. Casket bearers were Dennis Kaufmann, Darrell Johnson, Brad Schafer, Bill Schneider, Don Vaughn, Duane Nessel, Dave Schroeder, Sr., and Steve Carlson all volunteer fireman. The interment was Tuesday at the Saint Johnís Lutheran Cemetery on East Rush Lake with Jim Burda acting as urn bearer. Arrangements were entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Rush City ñ Olson Chapel.
