Emma ėSallyî Swanson

Emma ėSallyî Swanson of Rush City passed away peacefully at Green Acres Country Care Center in North Branch on Feb. 6, 2004, at the age of 95.

Sally was born Aug. 5, 1908 in Vichgard, Poland, to Leon and Wilehemna Schlak, When Sally was 9 months she immigrated to the United State with her parents on the Vessel Kaiser Wilhelm of the German line.

Sally lived in South Dakota for many years. There she met her husband, Ernest Swanson. They moved to Rush City and were married in 1936. They bough a farm north east of Rush City on the French Road. They lived there for years, farming the land and also raised their son, Merle, here.

Sallyís husband Ernest passed away in 1976. Sally stayed on the homestead until 1986. She then moved back to South Dakota until 1995. She then came back to live with son Merle and daughter-in-law, Jane, in Rush City.

In Aug. 2001 Sally fell and shattered her hip. She then went to Green Acres to live until her death.

Sally was a lot of fun and with her long life had many, many interesting tales. She loved gardening and flowers. She has impacted many lives and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Sally is survived by her son Merle and his wife Jane Swanson of Rush City, three grandchildren, Brad (Heather) Swanson of Rock Creek, Brian Swanson of Rock Creek, Becky Swanson of Beroun; five great-grandchildren: Tyler, Brooke, Chelsea, Emma and Summer; two sisters-in-law, Marion Vansickle of Rush City and Mavis (Russ) Albus of Calif., Bernice Gelden of Minneapolis; brothers-in-law: Carmen (Doris) Swanson of St. Croix Falls, Wisc., Albert (Merlyn Krueger) Swanson of Redwood City, Calif., Lawrence Johnson of Rush City, and many nieces and nephews.

Sally was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, two brothers, three sisters, her parents, sisters-in-law, Lucille Johnson, Doris Sebert, brothers-in-law Hans Gelden, Claire Vansickle; mother and father-in-law, Frank and Emma Swanson.

Services were held at Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City on Feb. 10 with Pastor Laurie OíShea officiating. Interment was at First Lutheran Cemetery.
