Hockey defeats Mora

The North Branch boys hockey squad ended a four-game win streak with a tough 5-1 loss to St. Michael-Albertville Feb. 6.

The team fell behind 4-0 through the first half of the second period before the Vikings found the net, courtesy of Marty Yackel to make it 4-1. The Knights added goal No. 5 in the third period to seal the win.

North Branch had 29 shots on goal in the game, compared to 35 shots from STMA.

The Vikes were back on the winning track with an exciting 8-6 win Feb. 10 against Mora.

A total of seven different skaters scored for North Branch in the win.

Both teams scored three goals in the third period. North Branchís goals came from Jake Kosky, unassisted, Yackel, assisted by Jake Hughes and Tony Watters, assisted by Hughes.

On a 3-3 tie, the Vikings came back to score the first two goals in the second period, coming off the sticks of Kosky, from Cory Husnik and Yackel and Ben Prigge, assisted by Yackel. The Mustangs came within 1 with a goal to make it 5-4 Vikings before Husnik scored on a breakaway to end the second with a 6-4 Vikes lead.

Nate Obitz and Andy Jordan scored in the third to seal the 8-6 win for the Vikes. It was Jordanís first career goal.

This week, the team faces Prairie Center Thurs., Feb. 19 at Elk River Arena and Becker Sat., Feb. 21 at Elk River.
