Tigers earn 4 all-conference awards at RRC meetBy Danielle Strenke The improvements being made in all events for the Rush City gymnastics team was never more evident than at the Rum River Conference meet, held Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Rush City Aquatic Center. As a team, the Tigers placed fifth in the conference with 122.625. Big Lake captured the conference title. Individually, Rush City walked away with four all-conference honors. Freshman Bethany Dahl earned all-conference on bars and floor, senior Gabby Calander was all-conference on beam and sophomore Becky Osterdyk was all-conference honorable mention on vault. Team results at the meet included Dahl- 11th place (tie) on vault and bars and 7th place on floor; Osterdyk- 11th place (tie) on vault and Calander- 9th place on beam. Earlier in the week, the squad won a dual meet with Grantsburg, scoring 126.50 points. Osterdyk took first on vault with an 8.3. Dahl ws first on bars with an 8.15, first on floor with an 8.9 and second on beam with a 7.95. She was also first in all-around with 33.0. Megan Antrobus ws first on beam with an 8.3. Although the squad didnít accomplish its goal during the regular season of 130 points, Head Coach Dianne Meier is pleased with the improvement in routines and addition of more difficult elements by all of the gymnasts. ìThe varsity hit their highest score of the season against Grantsburg,î she said. ìIím so proud of the girls.î Meier was also pleased with the performance from the JV team. ìI donít believe this team has ever had such a strong and consistent JV squad,î she said. The Tigers will now prepare for the Section 7AA meet Friday, Feb. 20 at Chaplin Park. ©ECM Post Review |
