Ethel O. Humble West

Ethel Ovidia Humble-West, 91 of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at the Grandview Christian Home.

She was born May 5, 1912 on a farm five miles east of North Branch, Minn. the third of four children to Andrew Gustaf and Minnie Matilda (Carlson) Kinblom. She lived on the home farm until age 11 when the family moved Cloverton where she graduated from high school.

On April 12, 1937 she was united in marriage to Walter Herbert Humble and to this union a daughter Delores Mae was born. They built a home in Cambridge and raised their daughter there. Ethel worked at the Cambridge Launderers and Cleaners, also as a waitress and later at the Cambridge State Hospital in the dietary department where she worked for over 20 years. Walter passed away on Sept. 7, 1973 and Ethel continued to live in Cambridge. On Dec. 27, 1975 she married George Clifford West. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home and spent time during the winter in Apache Junction, Ariz. They also enjoyed fishing together. He passed away Sept. 12, 1990.

Ethel loved playing cards, shopping, entertaining, growing houseplants, and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Lawrence Welk. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Weber.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Walter and George, daughter Delores Humble-Blucher, brother Lawrence Kinblom, sister Lillian Nord.
She is survived by sister Bernice De Lawer of Rice Lake, Wisc., five grandchildren Sandra (Timothy) Smith, Sheri (Aaron) Wuehler, Randy (fiancÈ Deborah) Johnson, Susan (William) Falter, and Ronda (Tony) Waring, 18 great-grandchildren Jarret, Amber, Katera, Dale, Corey, Tina, Kyle, Michael, Randy Jay Jr., Holly, Kylee, Russell, Jacob, William, Kyrstin, Shantel, Cherie and Alishia, four great-great-grandchildren, all of California. She is also survived by nephews and nieces Clayton (Vonna) Humble of North Branch, Larry (Pat) Kinblom of Cozy Corner, Wisc., Bob (Gerri) Kinblom of Iron River, Wisc., Don (Carolea) Nord of Brooklyn Park, Larry (Fran) Clauson of Danbury, Wisc., Glenn (Jennie) Humble of Stacy, Joyce (Virgil) Abrahamson of St. Paul, Donis Horton of White Bear Lake, Duane Samuelson, Elizabeth Burnet, Lloyd Swenson, Gordon Swenson, Bev (Wayne) Lundgren, Harry Kjellberg, and Robert Kjellberg all of California, and Carol (Michael) Clark of Cambridge, sisters-in-law Cora Humble and Clara Samuelson both of North Branch, special caretaker nephew Walt (Marian) Kjellberg of Cambridge, special niece and caregivers Sharon (Dean) Boettcher of Isanti, and caretaker Shirley Turnvall, and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 15, from St. John Lutheran Church of Weber with Rev. Kevin Zellers officiating. Jon Ekstrom, accompanied by Elena Piastro, provided the special music. Active pallbearers were Dean Boettcher, Clayton Humble, Greg Kinblom, Walter Kjellberg, Donald Nord, Ross Nord. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Clauson, Bob Kinblom, Larry Kinblom. Interment was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in North Branch.

Arrangements were with the Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.

The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Lynch, and all the loving and caring staff at Carstenís Harbour and Grandview Home for making her last days and years comfortable.

Memorials may be directed to the family for Carstenís Harbour or Breast Cancer Research. ìYou will always be in our hearts.î
