To the editor:
President Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress passed $350 billion tax plan creates massive long-term budget deficits, billions of hard-earned taxpayers dollars just this year.
This tax plan is targeted to an elite few Americans. The Republican plan provides tax cuts of $93,500 to the 200,000 people making over $1 million, while giving a majority of middle income Americans less than $100 total.
Republicans deliberately dropped a provision that would have helped 6.5 million working families with children. This provision, which Republicans removed from the final version of the tax bill, would have helped nearly 12 million families who need the assistance the most.
Among the children left behind in this tax bill are the 250,000 children whose parents are on active military duty. But you see the millionaires need the money more.
The record is more than clear, again and again Republicans have passed (or attempted to pass) legislation that puts the interests of the wealthy ahead of Americaís working families.
President Bush campaigned with the phrase ěno child left behind,í but the real Republican agenda during his administration has been ěno millionaire left behind.î
Please call Sen. Norm Coleman, who voted for this tax plan, and tell him that middle income Americans want a fair tax bill.
Sen. Colemanís number in Washington is (202) 224-5641.
