Two wins for NB boys hockeyFrom North Branch Hockey Association The North Branch boys hockey team just keeps on winning. Last week, the victories came over Moose Lake and Princeton, as the Vikes improved to 7-5 on the year. The squad skated to a 5-2 win over Moose Lake Jan. 26, out-shooting Moose Lake 20-14. After a scoreless first period, the Vikings were first on the board at 13:05 remaining in the second. Moose Lake tied the score, but the rest of the period was all North Branch as the visitors tallied 3 more goals. Moose Lake added its second goal in the third and Levi Disrud capped the scoring for the Vikes with a goal in the final minutes of the game. The next day, the locals took on Princeton and edged the Tigers 4-3 in overtime. Yackel opened the scoring off assists from Jake Hughes and Pat Hughes in the first period. North Branch went up 2-0 in the second with a shorthanded goal from Jake Hughes before Princeton retaliated with 3 straight in the period for a 3-2 lead. In the five minute overtime period, both goalies came up with key saves before Husnik found the net for North Branch, giving the Vikes a 4-3 win. He was assisted by Disrud and Jake Hughes. This week, the team faces St. Michael-Albertville Friday, Feb. 6. ©ECM Post Review |
