Applied for PC appointment

To the editor:

In good faith, I applied for the County Planning Commission in December. Assured by the County Administrator that I was the only candidate that applied for the position in District II by the date listed in the newspaper, imagine my surprise when someone else was appointed. Someone who did not apply until more than one week after the deadline.

Mr. Olseen indicated that I was not appointed because I did not agree with his view on the future of Chisago County. He did not, however, before that date ask me what my views were. This is great incentive for others to volunteer their time to serve the county.

I have lived and paid taxes in Chisago County for 36 years and have volunteered thousands of hours for local organizations and events. I am currently a real estate appraiser and own an appraisal firm in Forest Lake.
I do not buy or sell real estate, I do not hold a Realtorís license and I am not a developer, nor do I profit in any way from foreclosures which has been implied by Mark Oberg.

Our company appraises property in many counties north of the Twin Cities area. As an appraiser, I am very familiar with all aspects of zoning and development. As far as I can see, this does not constitute a conflict of interest with regard to serving on the Planning Commission.

I have now applied for the new at-large position that has become available. If you believe that I am qualified for this position, please call each of the following commissioners: Lora Walker ñ (651) 462-9308, Rick Olseen ñ (651) 674-7510, Ben Montzka ñ (651) 464-8515, Bob Gustafson ñ (651) 257-6218, Mike Robinson ñ (320) 358-3223.

If you are interested in e-mailing them, their e-mail addresses are located on the county Web site ñ www.co.chisago.mn.us/boardof.htm.
