Proud of county and city

To the editor:

Iím so proud of Chisago County and North Branch to recognize the needs of our communities regarding libraries. As a member of the Friends of the North Branch Library, I am aware of the lack of space in our library.
We have tried to bring new experiences to the children and adults but because of limited space, especially for the children, we have sometimes had to move to other places to accommodate the numbers.

I am looking forward to our new library. The new library will be in a lovely spot north of the fire hall. It will be three times the size of our present library. There are plans to have a large meeting room that will seat about 90 people. There will be a larger section for children with their own bathroom.

Also a section designated for teenagers with their own lounging area. It is being wired for the latest technology like an eventual security system, etc.
There will be more computers and a special place for our new micro film reader that the city has purchased.

I know the Chisago County commissioners were hesitant to have three new libraries but what a better time than when interest rates are low and jobs are scarce.

This should bring some work to subcontractors in our area for the next year or two. It is better to have the whole county pay for the libraries than expect the town where the library is located to bear the whole burden.
Also it sends a message to the children and others that we support literacy, and knowledge for the broad spectrum of humanity.

I hope the other counties recognize the advantages to their communities with more libraries in the East Central region. The space has been so limited that many books are in storage, now because of the expanded space there will be more books in the whole system and thus more materials available across the board for everyone.

There is so much available to the whole person through an extensive library system. The Friends of North Branch Library have tried to make our present library attractive and welcoming. But now so many new options will be available.
As the incoming president of the Friends, I invite all interested in our library to join with us.

Linda Prince
