Margaret Mary McKennaMargaret Mary McKenna was born Jan. 17, 1931, and passed away peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 10, 2004 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Watertown, South Dakota to Francis Edward McKenna and Mae Ida OíConnor. The family later moved to Tracy, Minn., where Marge spent her childhood attending both grade school and high school there. She graduated from Tracy High School in 1949. She worked for a time for Northwest Airlines before attending Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD. She transferred to St. Therese College in the Twin Cities and attained a degree in education in 1959. Marge started her teaching career in Tracy at the Catholic grade school. She later moved to Hastings, Minn., to teach in their public grade school and eventually moved to North Branch to teach and live out her days in that community. In North Branch, Marge was very involved in the grade school and the local Catholic Church, St. Gregoryís. At church she participated in the Council of Catholic Women (CCW), worked each year at their Spring Festival and counted money for the parish each week. Visitation will be held from the Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch on Jan. 12 from 5-8 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at St. Gregoryís Catholic Church on Tuesday, Jan. 13 in North Branch. Visitation will be held again at the church one hour prior to the service. Private burial will be held in Tracy, Minn. on Wednesday, Jan. 14. A trust fund to benefit the North Branch Elementary school is being set up in memory of Marge McKenna and Julie Marlow, long time teachers at the school.
