RC girls earn win over Pine CityThe Rush City girls basketball squad picked up a 59-49 win against Pine City Jan. 5 before falling to Braham Jan. 9 in a 47-44 contest. The Tigers started the week with a big 10-point win over the Dragons after more than two weeks of not playing a game. Rush City took the early 11-6 lead after the first quarter, but a strong 18-point second quarter from Pine City left the Tigers with a 4-point lead at the half at 28-24. Both teams hit 16 points in the third, but Rush City outscored the Dragons 15-9 in the fourth for the 59-49 win. ìWe played a pretty solid game overall after not playing in over two weeks,î Head Coach Stuart Lang said. Junior Holly Grimes led the team with 17 points, followed by junior Breann Stottler with 13. Senior Mindy Scott added 8. Sophomore Heather Dean led with 8 rebounds, while senior Christine Moore added 7. The Tigers came back and outscored Braham 19-15 in the final quarter, but were unable to cut the lead for the 47-44 loss. ìAs a team we really struggled on defense,î Lang said. ìWe just didnít match Brahamís intensity.î Grimes had a big game for the Tigers, notching 21 points. Dean added 11 points and Moore had 8 rebounds. The Tigers are now 5-2 overall. This week, the team was scheduled to face Ogilvie Tuesday and return home to take on East Central Friday, Jan. 16 before hitting the road again Monday, Jan. 19 to face Mora. ©ECM Post Review |
