Margaret Heitland

Margaret Heitland of Cambridge, formerly of Rush City, died Jan. 15, 2004 at the Cambridge Medial Center in Cambridge. She was 92 years old.
The Rev. Laurie OíShea officiated at funeral services Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Olson Chapel in Rush City. Jon Ekstrom sang two solos accompanied by organist Doris Swanson. Casket bearers were Lyle Thompson, Michael Thompson, Jerry Heitland, Douglas Peterson, Dennis Willert, John Erickson. Interment was at the First Lutheran Cemetery, Rush City.

Margaret Heitland, the daughter of Carl and Emma (Johnson) Willert, was born Jan. 27, 1911, near Thompson, Iowa in Winnebago County.

She grew up in Iowa, and on Oct. 5, 1930, was united in
marriage to Anton Heitland. They farmed in Iowa for a time, and in 1953 moved to a farm located west of Rush City where they lived for many years. Margaret enjoyed farming and caring for her chickens, calves, and the cows. She always had a large garden she enjoyed taking care of and canning the vegetables it produced. Always busy, she still found time to do embroidery and make quilts. Margaret loved to bake and entertain anyone who stopped by.

They sold their farm in 1966 and moved to Rush City, where Margaret became an employee of the Rush City Hospital.

Following retirement, they lived in Arizona for a few years before moving back to Minnesota and making their home first in Braham, and later in Rush City.

Margaret lived at Rush Estates II in Rush City prior to moving to River Hills Assisted Living in Cambridge. She lived there until the time of her death.

She is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary Albers of Lake Mills, Iowa, Agnes Thompson of Cambridge, Irine (Vern) Peterson of Thompson, Iowa, Emma Knapper of Thompson, Gladys Brekken of Lake Mills; brothers and sisters-in-law: John (Roscelia) Willert of Lake Mills, Fred Willert of Pine City, Carl (Iva) Willert of Lake Mills, Walt (Lou) Willert of Braham, Betty Willert of Austin.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Emma (Johnson) Willert, her husband Anton Heitland, her sister Pearl (Fred) Alphs, brothers Elmer Willert, Henry (Aagot) Willert, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Alice (Joe) Cline, Mae (Sonny) Smith, Clarence (Gladys) Heitland, Martin Thompson, Elwood Brekken, Jerry Knapper, and William Albers.
