RC grapplers rack up two wins, go 5-5Rush City wrestling was on a win streak last week and the team hopes to continue that good fortune through upcoming matches. In a spirited victory Jan. 13, the Tigers pulled out a win over Aitkin in the last match of the night; winning the bout 33-30. Tim Morris sealed the Rush City win by pinning Aitkinís Brandon Perrine in the second period of the 152 match. Richard Marohn may have had the most exciting match of the night for the Tigers. He and Aikinís Trevor Sterling locked up in the first period, ending it with a 0-0 score. By the end of the third period of the hard-fought match, Marohn and Sterling tied the score 3-3 forcing an overtime period. Maron finally won the match holding off Sterling to zero points while he earned four for himself in OT. ìWe were fortunate to get the match-ups we needed,î said Kevin Jensen, the teamís head coach. ìWe also minimized giving up pins that kept us close at the end.î Two days after the Aitkin match, the Tigers earned an important section win against Royalton, securing the match 43-27, during a tri-meet against Royalton and Eden-Valley Watkins. ìRoyalton had five open weight classes,î Jensen said, ìwhich was almost impossible to overcome.î Of the eight matches of the night, Royalton won four. Wuorinen and Morris both added to their winning records by pinning their opponents. Tim Allerton earned a decision over Jamie Carlson Roy and Nick Potter earned a major decision win over Brook Hackett, 12-3. The team rounded out the weekís competitions at the tri-meet with a loss to Eden Valley-Watkins. Individual recognition went to Tim Morris, Adam Morris and Zach Sowman for their efforts. Wuorinen lost both matches he wrestled, but both were against past state competitors and were tough, Jensen said. ìEden Valley was the toughest team we have faced this year so far,î Jensen said. ìWe didnít match up well with them.î The team will wrestle at home on Thursday against Trinity then travel on Friday night for a match at Hinckley-Finlayson. ©ECM Post Review |
