Carl D. Huston

Carl D. Huston of North Branch passed away peacefully Jan.17, 2004, at Green Acres Country Care Center at the age of 79 years.

Carl was born Sept. 26, 1924, in northern Minnesota to William and Ruth Huston. He spent three to four years in the Army and took part in the Berlin Airlift from 1948 to 1950.

In 1943 Carl married Margaret Cedarbloom in Stillwater and to this union eight children were born.
In 1955 Carl and Margaret bought a farm southeast of Rush City where they raised their children and did hobby farming.

Carl worked various jobs ñ he was a jack-of-all -trades. He was on the Stillwater Police Department in 1947, was a prison guard ìon the wallî at Stillwater prison, a cab driver in White Bear. Carl was also a supervisor at Minneapolis Moline and the Twin City Arsenal; a counselor at Lino Lakes Correctional Facility, worked on many construction jobs as supervisor, and also work for Silver Bay Mining Company.

Carl was a former member of the Rush City Eagles and V.F.W. More recently he belonged to the American Legion Post #182.

In 1986 Carl and Margaret sold the farm in Rush City. Then they moved around looking for a place to call home. They settled in at Shields Plaza in North Branch in March of 1987.

Carl resided there until July of 2001, when he was diagnosed with Alzheimerís. He went to live at Green Acres at that time.

Carl loved gardening, hunting, fishing, playing cards. He also bowled for George Jennings and the Hammís Brewery team. He loved spending time with his family. Carl was a wonderful, generous man. He could be hard at times but he had a heart of gold.

Carl was an encyclopedia of information about life, lifeís obstacles and paths of opportunity. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Especially his winning smile and that twinkle in his eye!

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret of North Branch; sons and daughters-in-law: David and Colleen Huston of Stillwater; Tom and Cindy Huston of Biloxi, Miss.; Peter and Deanna Huston of Stacy, Carl Huston, Jr. of Rush City; Scott Huston of Pine City; daughters and sons-in-law Jane and Merle Swanson of Rush City; Cheryl and Gary Reynolds of Washington; and Laura Kost of Rush City; two sisters Wilma (Jack) Trenter, Beryle (Don) Gehl; one brother Manford (Patrice) Hall; 35 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, many other relatives, nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, three sisters and nephews Bobby, John, Jim and Craig Huston; great-granddaughter Jayme Huston.

Carl was a member of the Cremation Society. There will be no service at this time.
