RC wrestlers secure 6th at Ogilvie tourney

Rush City wrestlers got a taste of what state competition could hold this year during the Ogilvie Invitational tournament Jan. 3.
The Tigers pulled out a 6th place win out of 11 teams that competed.
Head coach Kevin Jensen said the competition was tough and a good learning experience for his team.
ěThis was one of the best tournament of the year,î Jensen said. ěThere were many state entrants and some state place winners at this tournament. The competition was excellent.î
Facing potential state front-runners early in the season gives the Tiger wrestlers the opportunity to prepare in case they make the cuts to the big tournament in March.
Senior Mike Wuorinen, who is aiming for his second state tournament appearance at the end of this season, took the championship in the 171-pound weight class.
Eight of the teams in the Ogilvie Tournament had never faced the Tigers before. Those included five metropolitan area schools.
Coming in first at the Ogilvie meet was Watertown Meyer. Robbinsdale Cooper was second with Eden Valley-Watkins in third.
Mille Lacs took 4th with Morris in 5th.
The Tigers face Eden Valley Watkins again Jan. 15 in a tri-meet at Royalton.
In the Ogilvie tournament, Adam Morris came away with the top place win for Rush City, earning 2nd at 140.
Richard Marohn was 3rd at 119.
Matt Wuorinen (130), Zach Sowman (145) and Tim Morris (152) each earned 4th place wins.
Tim Allerton (135) and MacKenzie Johnston (160) both were 5th. James Fleming (125) was 6th for the team.
