To the editor:
This letter comes in response to the article titled ìRush City came close to losing library fundingî printed in the June 23 copy of this newspaper. I was first bitter and then became saddened that it was even considered taking the money away from the residents of Rush City, especially for funding something that is over budget, a $6.5 million budget.
Commissioner Montzka must realize that Rush City should not yet again be penalized for design and square footage of the other libraries. The readers in this town are just as deserving and important as the readers in North Branch, are they not? A small chunk (much, much smaller than that allocated for North Branch and the other two areas) of the county taxpayerís money was designated for the Rush City remodeling. Donít use it for the other cities and then bond for additional funds later, donít do that to taxpayers you are representing.
A senior center will be built in Rush City. Our city will be ready and eagerly awaiting the arrival of new books, hours of operation, computer technology and a more generous area for these good things and good people in this library community.
A library is a public service, a service to better a community and its people. Rush City is growing and this library will continue to be appreciated. I would like to thank our city and everyone of the past who has achieved in Rush City Library a positive and resourceful public service, and thank the county for now taking on this duty.
Erin Waters
