To the editor:
This letter is in response to the article in this newspaper on July 14, 2004 concerning Green Acres Country Care Center.
My name is Elizabeth Schwab and I am the activity director here. This is my sixth year here.
Here are my feelings toward the article.
We did indeed receive 31 tags during our survey. Our staff gets ready for months at a time for this survey by just doing our everyday wonderful care. When the state (and this time federal) survey team walks in the door, our hearts beat faster and we get ready for a week of being watched.
Our ìfamilyî does a wonderful job during this trying time. They do the same spectacular care then as they do daily. On a personal side here are my feelings.
I donít think anyone would stay at a facility for six years that wasnít a quality facility. The love I feel everyday when I walk into Green Acres is overwhelming.
I see some very young people caring lovingly for some very old people.
I see smiles, hugs, laughter and tears.
These are true nursing home moments that can take your breath away, break your heart of make you want to burst with pride.
The state inspection week is a huge interruption (but I do understand a necessary one) to our daily routine. The inspectors are very kind, but they did tag us on some very simple things.
We must, and do, look at these tags as a positive way to improve an already wonderful nursing home.
True it was disheartening to receive so many tags, when people do such a wonderful job 24-7, 365 days per year, but we are optimistic, we love what we do, and we do a wonderful service to our community daily.
