A 26-year-old Rush City man apparently mistimed crossing the railroad tracks north of Rush City and was caught under a moving train, killing him.
The Chisago County Sheriffís Office said Alan Lee Hagman was driving a Yamaha dirt bike near the railroad tracks in rural Rush City in northern Chisago County July 7.
Investigators believe Hagman may have wanted to cross the tracks which run north to south through Rush City or he may have been riding alongside the tracks and lost control of the dirt bike.
A engineer for the train told investigators that at 10 a.m. on July 7 he was driving north on the tracks. He said there was nothing unusual at the time, but when he returned southbound on the same tracks around noon, he saw the body.
The dirtbike was found a short distance from the site of the accident, near a private farm access which crosses the tracks, and investigators believe Hagmanís body was dragged about 100 feet after it was hit by the train.
Hagman was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, but investigators said wearing one would not have helped him.
The dirt bike on which Hagman was riding was reported stolen four years ago from Anoka County, investigators said. The fact that the bike had been reported stolen has no impact on the investigation of the death, which is considered an accident, investigators said.
Investigators had not heard from the medical examiner about whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
