Audrey J. (Martin) Blom, age 84, of New Brighton, formerly of Harris, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at Trevilla of New Brighton.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 28, at the First Lutheran Church in Harris.
Audrey was born and raised in Minneapolis. She was a 1937 graduate of Edison High School and attend Bethel College and the University of Minnesota. At Bethel she was the girlís basketball captain.
Audrey was united in marriage (June 1942) to Joseph Blom of Harris for over 50 years. She served as Sunday School superintendent at First Lutheran Church at Harris, assessor for Harris for 14 years, and 40H leader of the Golden Gophers for 17 years. Audrey enjoyed sewing, making nearly all the familyís clothing for many years and later making crewel pictures and pillows which she exhibited at county fairs, winning many blue and champion ribbons. She gardened, canned, made root beer, pickles and sauerkraut. She loved to bake, making bread, cookies, and pies for her young family and Joeís elderly parents.
Audrey was a resident of Brightondale for the past seven years serving on many committees and helping the other residents. She folded napkins, ran bingo, managed the store, and participated in craft projects. Audrey was a ìreading buddyî at a nearby elementary school and served on the Brightondale welcoming committee. Her years at Brightondale were active and enjoyable.
She is survived by daughter Marcia (Fernando - Fred) DelCastillo of Brooklyn Park, son Lowell (Linda) Blom of Monticello; grandchildren Jonathan Blom, Jessica Blom and Michelle DelCastillo (Darren) Reiten, sister-in-law Clarice Martin, nieces, and other relatives. Also friends from Harris, Brightondale and ìoldî Bethel friends. She was preceded in death by husband Joseph, parents William and Hazelle Martin and brother Donald Martin. Memorials preferred to First Lutheran Church of Harris or donorís choice.
Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Harris. Arrangement were by Grandstrand Funeral Home, North Branch.
