Memorial Day services around the community honored those fallen in the line of duty so little boys like 17-month-old Nathanial Bigalk could walk barefoot and play with the flags on aging tombstones in a free country.

As the toddler checked out Hiram Fiskís grave site (born 1843, died 1888, NY Volunteers), the roll call of veterans was being held at the Catholic cemetery in North Branch.
