From the North Branch Police Department
Thereís something new about the bike rodeo this year - it has been named the Howard Kurtz Annual Bike Rodeo in honor of the special person instrumental in getting the bike rode started in North Branch.
Kurtz, a friend of area children of the North Branch Police department and former county deputy, passed away last year.
He was always on hand for the bike rodeo to give assistance.
His family has set up a fund to donate a girlís and boyís bike to the rodeo every year.
The bike rodeo will be held Saturday, June 5 at the North Branch City Hall parking lot. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the bike rodeo is from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
At the bike rodeo, children can have their bicycles safety checked, learn the rules of bike riding, and the first 80 kids registered will receive a free bike helmet (additional helmets may be purchased).
The children will receive a bicycle maintenance book (while supplies last) and a grand prize drawing will be held at 11 a.m. for the bikes donated by the Kurtz family.
The event is sponsored by Tanger Outlet Center, North Branch Rotary, Lake State Federal Credit Union, North Branch TRIAD, North Branch Police Department, North Branch Bumper to Bumper, Fairview Lakes Regional Health Care Center, Youth Service Bureau and Abundant Life Church.
