Two North Branch track members will appear at state meet

By Danielle Strenke

Junior Jenny Anderson is heading to state for the second year in a row as a member of the North Branch track team.

This year will be a little different for Anderson, as she competes in the 100m hurdles this weekend in Blaine.

Last season, Anderson advanced to state in the 300m hurdles. She describes the two events as totally opposite in technique, but she now knows what to expect from the tough level of competition at the state level.

Anderson qualified for her second trip to state with a second place finish at the section finals June 2 at Cambridge with a time of 16.19.
ìIt was an OK time,î Anderson said. ìBut it was windy, so I know I can do better.î

Anderson is looking to set her own ìPRî (personal record) at the state meet.

ìWhat is my PR?î Anderson asked hurdles coach Diane Jones at an afternoon practice Monday at the North Branch track.

Jones said Andersonís personal best is 15:09, so Anderson said she is shooting for 15:08 at state.

Along with that, Anderson wants to make the semifinals this year. A disappointing preliminary round last year in the driving rain eliminated Anderson from advancing in the 300m hurdles.

As she practices this week in North Branch and at the Blaine Sports Center, Anderson isnít concerning herself with the competition.
ìI donít really know about my competition,î she said.

Andersonís time is in the middle of the pack among Class AA competitors. The best time coming into the state meet is 15:04, set by Caitlin Roemhildt of Minnetonka.

Andersonís parents, other family members and track team members will be there to cheer her on Friday at the preliminary round.

Anderson runs in the first of two heats in the 100m hurdles, starting at 10:00 a.m.
