To the editor:
To the Citizens of Chisago County. An update from Chisago Taxpayers for Responsible Land Use Association calls for a second, closed members only meeting, Saturday, March 20, 2004, 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Shafer Town Hall, Palmdale, Minn., via personal invitation.
No doubt fueled and exercised by the thread of a modicum of sustainable land use policy, those with X amount of land and money feel the need to meet in secret, to discuss how to advance their cause and organize against county commissioners who are so short-sighted as to attempt to practice in truth and deed the promotion of the general good and common welfare from the ravenous maw of those seeking to turn land into the developmentalÝfallout of Maplewood and other sprawl begotten locales. At this private meeting one of the agenda items will be of necessity to form a de jure political action committee to work against our elected officials. As I remember, we just elected these same representatives on their commitment and practice of wise land use planning. Your being invited and attending will enable your own determination to be madeÝwhether this group is interested in sustainable land use or is simply masquerading and driven by those promoting and benefiting at the public expense, of ramped-up, unregulated housing development.
Why is this closed meeting not open to the public? We have opinions as they do. Give them a call and ask to be invited, as we are all taxpayers and concerned about what shape development will take in our county. Will this secret meeting group proceed to dictate to the rest of us how our county will grow, and what, if anything, will be protected. We are about 45,000 taxpayers, why have all not been invited to this meeting convened by the movers and shakersÝand principal beneficiaries in the land development industry?
Be sure at the next meeting of the county commissioners, planning commission, land use steering committee, ask these 37 Chisago County reps what is the nature of their relationship with Chisago Taxpayers for Responsible Land Use Association.
