To the editor:
Isnít local public policy too important to be left solely to the developer? Closed door, invitation only mass meetings determining development practices along the national St. Croix Riverway are to be held at Shafer Town Hall on Saturday, March 20 at 10 am and at 2 pm. Elected public officials attending these secret covens immediately opens up the problem of quorum violations of the Minnesota Open Meeting Law.
Just as Dick Cheneyís private meetings on national energy policy were widely condemned, so too should local private interest manipulators be exposed and criticized.
If the freedom of our democracy is to prevail then the Angry Developers, Inc. convening this meeting should open their meeting up to the public on March 20. Since the preservation of our state and national parksí system along the St. Croix River is at stake, I encourage all friends of the St. Croix to attend and observe Angry Developers, Inc. in action at the Shafer Town Hall on Minnesota 95 three and a half miles east of Almelund on March 20.
