To the editor:
I have received a copy of a letter (invitation) from a group calling themselves ìChisago Taxpayers for Responsible Land Use Association.î ìIrresponsibleî would fit better.
They are complaining about the County Board of Commissioners attempting to protect the St. Croix River and the Sunrise River via ordinance and temporary moratorium. They think the county is trying to steal their inalienable right to do any greedy thing they want to with their land. Nobody owns land this way; there are always restrictions on land use/ownership anywhere in the world.
They say: why does this have to be done now? This is because Chisago County is behind on land (and water) protection.
They are now proceeding to hold a private (or secret) meeting at Shafer Town Hall on Sat., March 20, with many ìspecialî invitations sent out by land owners, various township supervisors, developers, and real estate people. One canít attend this meeting (actually 2 sessions at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.) without oneís special invitation. This is extremely undemocratic ñ if their position is so correct, they ought not be afraid to defend it ñ with anyone in Chisago County.
I suggest Chisago County residents picket or otherwise protest this meeting and attend to complain if they can wangle invitations.
