To the editor:
A group called ìThe Chisago Taxpayers for Responsible Land Use Associationî sent out invitations to a ìsecretî meeting recently. It is not troubling that they want to meet, nor is their agenda a problem. In fact the irony is that we all have the same goals, what is so frightening is that they want to meet in secret.
Invitations only, exclude those who want to join the dialogue, share information. There is so much information out there, the recent workshop in River Falls highlighted that well. Sadly the members of C.T.R.L.U.A. that I have met seem to be more interested in inflaming the fires of anger, rumor, and fear, and less in education and problem solving. ìMisinformation breeds distrustî how true, on both sides.
In these post 9-11 days it is more important than ever to adhere to the ideals that define America, besides that the whole world is watching, it is the very soul of our nation that is at risk. People have died and are still dying to give us a free and open society. ìOpenness guarantees freedom.î ìIt takes two people to tell the truth, one to tell the other to hear.î
I pray that the people of our county can realize we donít have to think our neighbor is our enemy, that we can trust each other and work together. If we fail in this we all lose especially our children.
