Group will share vision later

To the editor:
Iím on the steering committee for the Chisago Taxpayers for Responsible Land Use, a new organization that has been trashed, without any justification, by a number of letter writers. The world they portray, secret society, etc. ñ is baloney, a figment of their imagination.
The CTRLU members Iíve met are sensible, responsible taxpayers who want to pass on an affordable, attractive and healthy county to future generations.
Members are exercising their first amendment right ñÝìthe right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.î
The moratorium brought us together. It was like the tax on tea that George III imposed on the colonists. Their response was the Boston Tea Party. Our response was to petition the county commissioners. Result: common sense prevailed. The moratorium was rescinded in 45 days.
Would the moratorium have been cancelled so quickly without organized opposition? Doubtful.
Would state lawmakers work to change the annexation statute if Wyoming Township residents didnít exercise their First Amendment right to petition their government? Unlikely. Our members intend to be a force for good in our county. Many have lived here all their lives.Ý
When members have formed a consensus, we will share our vision with the community.
