To the editor:
On March 18, 2004, Sen. Nienow had an opportunity to vote to keep jobs in Minnesota, instead he voted to continue the corporate trend of sending good-paying Minnesota jobs overseas.
He voted against American workers ñ voted against legislation designed to protect jobs, keep jobs and grow jobs in Minnesota.
Economist say thousands of American jobs have moved overseas in the past year, leaving countless Minnesotans out of work. It is widely agreed the outsourcing trend is one of the factors contributing to the nationís jobless economic recovery and one of the reasons that Minnesotaís economic recovery is lagging behind the national pace.
In fact, more than 2,000 jobs were lost in Minnesota last month. This is on top of the 58,700 jobs lost since the election of Gov. Pawlenty and Republicans have taken control of the Minnesota House.
We canít afford this siphoning of our workforce ñ we need to support legislation to keep Minnesota jobs in Minnesota. Your state senator doesnít agree ñ he says itís okay to send our jobs overseas. Call Sen. Nienow today and tell him that you want your tax dollars used to keep jobs in Minnesota, not overseas.
Tom Bakk
State Senator, District 6
