NB earns third at tourney

The Vikings fell in two regular season games last week but went on to take third place at the Brooklyn Center Tournament over the weekend.

North Branch had only 2 hits in a 3-0 loss to Big Lake May 4.

The Vikings recorded singles from senior Eddie Meier and sophomore Matt Warren and struck out 11 times in the game.

Big Lake had 1 run in the first, 1 in the fourth and 1 in the sixth innings, 2 of them unearned.

Starting pitcher senior Jake Anderson struck out 3 and gave up 4 hits in the loss.

North Branch and Foley matched each other with 9 hits apiece in a 9-5 Vikings loss May 6.

Foley opened the scoring with 3 runs in the fourth and went ahead 7-0 with 4 more in the fifth.

The Vikes rallied with 1 in the fifth and 4 in the sixth to trail 7-5. The Falcons sealed the win with 2 in the seventh.

North Branchís run in the fifth came on a solo home run from Ranger. He went on to triple in the sixth, knocking in Anderson who had reached on a single. Also in the inning, Ryan, Fletcher and Aaland doubled and Dominic Stahley singled.

Ryan went 2 for 4 in the game and Ranger was 2 for 3 including a homerun and triple.

North Branch was on the winning end of a 9-8 game to open the Brooklyn Center tourney May 10.

Anderson pitched a complete game against Blake for the win, striking out 10.

It took ten innings for the Vikes to earn the 9-8 win, tallying 10 hits against Blake.

Aaland was 3 for 4 in the win and Dominic Stahley had the game-winning hit in the tenth to score Ryan.

The locals fell to Montgomery 8-6 in the second game of the tourney.

Meier took the loss, and the Vikes committed two costly errors that cost 5 runs.

Aaland and Warren both went 2 for 4. Fletcher recorded a home run in the game as the Vikes rallied back from an 8-1 deficit to score 5 runs in the final inning.

North Branch took the third place title with an 8-4 win over Minnehaha to end the tourney at 2-1.

Aaland was the winning pitcher for North Branch. Warren went 2 for 4 including a triple. Sophomore Dan Gray had his first varsity hit in the game, lining a double and earning 2 RBI.

North Branch is 3-9 overall, 1-5 in the conference. This week, the squad hosts Milaca Thursday and Princeton Friday, May 13.
