In response to ìA tax by any other nameî 5-5-04, the part about a surcharge placed on child support payments.ÝI currently have a case open and feel it is more than fair.ÝThe obligee is the person receiving support and effective 7-1, you would be required to pay 1 percent of the total amount of support you receive.ÝIn cases where the obligee receives any type of public assistance, they are required to pay nothing.ÝIn my case the biological father does not pay, however I know how many hours these case workers put in trying to collect from the non-custodial parents and 1 percent is a small price to pay.ÝThe state of Minnesota is providing a great service in helping to make sure non-custodial parents support their children, and I am amazed that this was not done a long time ago.
Too many people feel it is their right to receive these types of services.ÝThe government did not force these situations on any of the parents (myself included).ÝI resent the fact that someone would use the term ìbalancing the budget on the backs of children.îÝI call it a lot cheaper then having to pay a lawyer to do the job!
