Tigers drop 2 to GRC foes

The squad opened play last week with a 4-2 loss to Ogilvie May 4 and also fell 8-6 to Aitkin May 6.

The Tigers were flat at the plate, recording only 6 hits. Junior John Bosman picked up an RBI with Rush Cityís first run of the game in the second inning. Bosman hit a two-out single to score senior Andrew Kaufmann.

Rush City held on to a 1-0 lead and increased it to 2-0 with a run on singles from seniors Kellin Sybrant and Brent Freeman in the fifth.
The 2-0 lead lasted until Ogilvie put 4 runs on the board in the top of the seventh. The runs came on three hit batters, two walks, an error and a balk. Rush City stranded two runners in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-2 loss.

Bosman pitched well, despite hitting three batters. He allowed only 4 hits and struck out 9.

Sybrant was 2 for 4 in the game to lead the offense.

ìWe couldnít get anything going offensively,î Head Coach Bob Schlagel said. ìWe only had 6 hits on the night. You canít win many games with that hit total. We gave up four runs without Ogilvie getting a hit.î

The Tigers held a 5-0 lead after a big second inning against Aitkin last Thursday but were unable to hold on, losing 8-6.

The 5 runs in the second came on singles from Grabau, Webb and Bosman and a double from Sybrant, along with a walk and an error.
The Gobblers put 1 on the board in the third on 3 hits. Aitkin tied the game at 5-5 with 4 runs in the fifth and went ahead with 3 more in the third.

Rush City staged a comeback in the seventh as Webb opened with a single, Sybrant singled and Bosman walked. Freeman knocked in one run, but both Sybrant and Freeman were tagged out on the basepaths to end the game.

Sybrant led the offense with 3 hits including a double and 2 RBI. Web had 2 hits and an RBI.

ìIt was a disappointing game for our kids in the sense that we had a 5-0 lead but couldnít hold it,î Schlagel said. ìWe need to regain our confidence and do the things we are capable of and we will be fine.î

The Tigers are 5-4 in the Great River Conference, 7-4 overall.

This week, the Tigers faced Hinckley-Finlayson Tuesday and travel to Braham Thursday, May 13.
