Boys tennis downs Princeton

The North Branch boys tennis team picked up a win over Princeton May 4. The team went on to finish last in its own 4-team invitational May 8.

Against Princeton, the Vikings swept in singles play. Earning wins were Britt Baumann, Justin Mahlke, David Stark and Blake Anderson. The No. 2 doubles team of Jason Endriss and Jeromie Hamann also earned a win for the Vikes.

ìIt was nice to get a win for the team,î Head Coach Tom McLaughlin said.

The squad lost to Pine City 6-1 May 6 with its lone win coming from Baumann at No. 1 singles. ìBritt continues to look stronger and it was encouraging to see Justin Mahlke play so well,î McLaughlin said.

The squad hosted Hudson, Irondale and Chisago Lakes May 8, coming away with only 4 points. Hudson won the invite with 15 points.

Baumann earned first place at No. 1 singles with his victories in the meet. Stark earned the third singles medal by playing consistent tennis all day, McLaughlin said.

The team competes at the Rum River Conference championships Thursday, May 13 at Pine City and will be at Cambridge Tuesday, May 18.
